Tough game this one I would imagine. It is a long way from Canberra to Mackay and playing Sunday afternoon the weather will be very different to what a lot of our players have been used to. And up against the old coach.
The SL record outside of Brisbane hasn't been great over the past couple of years from memory.
Hopefully the boys can play to their potential and take home the chocolates.

Cutters charged up Steele Taylor | 31st July 2010
DETERMINED Mackay Cutters coach Paul Bramley has challenged his troops to take on one of the competition's most intimidating packs, the Souths-Logan Magpies.
Isaak Ah Mau is set to lead the charge for the Mackay Cutters forward pack. Tomorrow’s match against premiership powerhouse Souths Logan at the JRL grounds looms as a crucial game for the home side.
DETERMINED Mackay Cutters coach Paul Bramley has challenged his troops to stand up to one of the competition’s most intimidating packs and an all-Canberra Raiders backline when they are confronted by heavyweights Souths-Logan Magpies at South Mackay tomorrow.
Bramley, who propelled the Magpies to a premiership in 2008 and a minor premiership last year, holds no fears of his former club but is wary of their potential.
“I rate Souths Logan, along with Norths, as having the biggest and best pack in the comp,” he said.
“The challenge for our forwards is to match them or to better them.”
The Cutters will also have to contend with a Magpies’ backline bristling with Raiders talent.
Every man in jerseys one through to seven is dual-registered with Canberra, including fullback David Milne and three-quarters Brett Kelly and Reece Robinson.
And Bramley is eager to see his halves Grant Rovelli and Todd Seymour outshine opposites Marc Herbert and Michael Picker.
“It’s a big chance for Todd who I think is a couple of years away from being NRL standard,” he said.
“He’s come a long way in the last year and is one of our biggest improvers.
“It’s also a good opportunity for Grant. He’s coming up against two NRL touted players so he can go out there and look to be dominant.”
With four games remaining in the regular season, seventh-placed Mackay has arguably the easiest run of six teams vying for four remaining finals berths in the top six, but faces its toughest test this weekend in second-placed Souths-Logan.
“We’re treating every game as a finals game from here on,” Bramley said.
“If we want to go to the next level, this is the game where we can stand up.”
Bramley will be relying on the likes of Isaak Ah Mau and Liam McDonald to do the hard yards and expects interchange front-rowers Luke Fatnowna and Regan Hyde to rip in when they come on.
“With some forward packs there is a pause when the front-rowers change but Luke and Regan continue to keep going forward for the team; we keep our momentum.” he said.
And while Fatnowna has impressed all season, Hyde has started to make his impact in recent rounds.
“He’s very confident. He’s been developing over the last four weeks and has shown he can hold his own,” Bramley said of the 192cm, 102kg 28-year-old who has played 16 games for Mackay, including six this season.
MAGPIES: D Milne, M Brophy, B Kelly, J Stuart, R Robinson, M Herbert, M Picker, L Balcomb, M King, K Whalley, J Kennedy, B Cross, P Dennis. Interchange: Q Laulu-Togagae, W Liddell, J Tutuila, M Pitman.
CUTTERS: S Gallant, M Comerford, D Malone, J Hannay, C Giumelli, G Rovelli, T Seymour, L McDonald, N Budworth, I Ah Mau, D Griffiths, B Harris, S Muspratt. Interchange: M Meigan, G Moore, R Hyde, L Fatnowna.

Listless Cutters let chance slip
Mackay’s Luke Fatnowna is hit hard by the Souths Logan defence at South Mackay yesterday.
WITH their finals hopes on a precipice, Mackay Cutters mentor Paul Bramley questioned his players’ lack of urgency after a 34-10 loss to competition giant Souths Logan at South Mackay yesterday.
“I fancied our chances here but we just didn’t turn up,” the dejected coach said.
“I’ve just got to question what motivates the boys. It’s the biggest game of our season and I just didn’t sense there was the urgency to win it.”
The result elevates Souths Logan to first on the Intrust Super Cup ladder and leaves Mackay teetering in eighth position, a point shy of the finals-bound top six.
“It (the defeat) definitely affects our momentum. It puts us in a pretty precarious position to make the six,” Bramley said after taking on his old club.
“But it’s a week to week thing. We’ve just got to make sure we’re ready to go for the next game.”
While Souths Logan dominated proceedings, they also got a slice of luck, particularly from kicks.
“They got some really important calls go their way and things didn’t bounce for us,” Bramley said.
Mackay prop Liam McDonald, who was also competing against his former team, agreed.
“Things didn’t go our way I suppose and obviously Souths Logan is a quality team,” he said, before predicting his team would turn the tables.
“We can match them and will match them when we get further in this competition. It just wasn’t our day today.”
The signs were ominous when Mackay second rower Darren Griffiths threw a pass that was intercepted in just the third minute. Michael Brophy raced 50m to score.
The STM Cutters levelled the ledger when Shane Muspratt threw a sharp pass that was well caught by Griffiths, who got around the outside of his man to score.
But the visitors hit the lead when Matthew Pittman strolled through from the middle of the park, linking with try-scorer Wade Liddell.
Consecutive, but unlucky, knock-ons from the Cutters helped Souths Logan to a 16-6 half-time lead when Magpies half Michael Picker assisted Reece Robinson to a try.
The visitors, who struggled to hold the ball at times, coughed up possession in their own half and Mackay took advantage when Todd Seymour’s grubber found winger Michael Comerford.
But Picker pounced on a kick from Marc Herbert to score, and then fullback David Milne passed to centre James Stuart for another try to the visitors.
When a Cutters drop-out went out, Magpies slotted the penalty, claiming a 20-point lead. Then a Herbert pass to centre Shaun Daylight was finished off by Brophy.
The Cutters have a bye next week, before hosting ninth-placed Tweed Heads and cellar-dweller Ipswich, before a final-round blockbuster away to seventh-placed Sunshine Coast.

Magpies dominate
THE Souths Logan Magpies have reclaimed top spot on the Intrust Super Cup table after a comfortable 34-10 victory over the Mackay Cutters in Mackay yesterday.
The round 19 win lifted the Magpies to 28 competition points, one clear of the Norths Devils who have a game in hand against the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles at Bishop Park on Saturday.
Eager to start hitting their straps with the finals fast approaching, the Magpies were quickly on the front foot against a surprisingly lacklustre Cutters outfit.
Speedy Souths Logan winger Michael Brophy ensured the visitors would play from in front when he intercepted a Darren Griffiths pass and sprinted 50m to score in just the third minute.
Mackay hit back after Shane Muspratt and Griffiths combined, but the Magpies were quick to regain the ascendancy and scored twice more to lead 16-6 at the break.
Errors crept into the Magpies’ game in the second half but the visitors were able to post points when the opportunities surfaced.
Halfback Marc Herbert was heavily involved, while Brophy finished with a double after linking with Shaun Daylight.
While Souths Logan mentor Mark Beaumont was thrilled to return from the tough road trip with the two points, Mackay coach Paul Bramley couldn’t help but question his team’s desire.
“I fancied our chances here but we just didn’t turn up,” Bramley told the Daily Mercury.
“I’ve just got to question what motivates the boys. It’s the biggest game of our season and I just didn’t sense there was the urgency to win it.”

Souths Logan have a bye this week, with Rd 19 being a split Rd.
In good news, SL will stay on top of the table by one point after this week, the Sunny Coast have hammered Norths today 42-10 at Bishop Park, and they looked really good.
