Israel Folau signs four year deal with Broncos
Written by: LeagueUnlimited.com
March 30th, 2008 1:55pm

Melbourne Storm centre Israel Folau has signed a four-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos, beginning in 2009.

Folau made the announcement last night in the Storm dressing room following the 2007 premiers 10-6 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

The deal with the Broncos is understood to be worth a staggering $2 million.

More details as they come to hand.

Luke Lewis of Penrith has apparently signed with the Rabbits today. The Bulldogs were hoping to snare the former NSW winger to fill the void left by the departure of Tonga to the Cowboys. According to reports however , South Sydney have prized the winning signature of Lewis.

Someone at work who is a Broncos fan told me today that Cam Smith of Melbourne is heading to Brisbane. I have no idea if there is a hint of truth to this , just putting it out there!

If thats what they are paying him, i can see why he left and i can understand why the raiders couldn't compete and wouldn't of wanted too. a lot of money for an unproven coach...

Apparent Signing
Micky Paea to the raiders for 3 years. Roosters to pay some of his salary for this year and Raiders the rest
Cooper Vuna has re-signed with Newcastle for 2 more years

Rumours
Preston Campbell - Penrith
Steve Michaels - Gold Coast
Darren Lockyer - Hull KR
Stu Flanagan - Storm, contradictory to this:- "Flanagan will be a Raider in 09."

Where does Micky normally play?

If flanaghan goes to the storm, then Cam Smith is leaving.

Kevy Walter new front runner in the Broncos coaching line, ahead of Henjak and Bellamy...

So it looks 30% that Smith will go to the Broncos. Remembering they've got Ennis and Marsh...

I'd really love to know how real that Paea signing is, reputable source LGV or so so? :)

Not surprised Weyman may head to the Panthers, the club (and coach) could have supported him a bit more the last few days.

I hope that Woodgers rumour about him being banned by Henry from first grade this season isn't true. :x

Sorry Lime Green I wasn't avoiding you... My contact said he has seen the contract signing.

Rumours:-
David Shillington rumored to the Raiders
Tony Puletua - St Helens/Bradford
Eddie Paea - Manly

A lot of former Raiders lined up to take the assistant coaching poistion. I heard a sad rumour that the NRL are going to try and move the Raiders to the Central Coast. But we have three things against that; our BRILLANT Toyota Cup team, Dave Furner becoming our coach and many NRL coaches (most likely former Raiders) would boycott Central Coast games...

That Central Coast rumour has been doing the rounds for years LGV. Nothing new there, unless you are claiming the NRL is actually getting serious about it.

I'm not worried about the Central Coast Rumour at all..

David Furner has signed a 3 year deal to coach the CANBERRA Raiders.

Also in terms of finances and assets, we are streets ahead of many other clubs.

Raiders to Central Coast is probably just a Phil Gould Wet Dream.

If the raiders are doing so well financially why could we compete with lucrative coach deals, such as the rumoured $500K per season for Henry. Not saying we would want to but if it only comes down to money and we have no problem pulling it in then why wouldn't we?
I think the money situ is a load of crap. We obviously don't have much. That besides us no having the same pokie taxes as the NSW based clubs.

You obivously dont have much of an idea. Get some brains into ya.

a) I am sick of tellin people that the QBN Leagues Club will support the club with every last cent it has. The QBN Club, on its own, made an operating profit of $7 Million last year, even after spending around $1 million on charities and sporting groups (including the Raiders).

b) Our biggest club IS subject to the same tax laws as other NSW based clubs.

c) Would you spend $1 Million per year on a coach, just because you have the financial clout to do so?

KW is right about the stats for the QLC, I looked them up the other day. :)

The only real issue is if the NRL gets it into its head that the club has to be moved, I believe it has the power to revoke its licence.

Equally though the club does seem to behave like a tightwad on a number of fronts. It's a function of management. They are evidently tight asses.

Rumour has it NH went for $500K a season not a $1 mill. I suspect it was more like $300-400K in reality.

I wonder how much we were paying him?

Didn't Faiumu play premier league down here before going to NQ?

His youth clubs were Wainuiomata, Canberra, Central Comets, Cowboys, so yes, but he's out of favour now and wants to test the market.
